PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATIONMy philosophy on education is that learning is possible for all people willing to commit themselves to their own development. As a professional in the field of education, I want to help all individuals on the path to their learning achievement, keeping in mind that flexibility for the individual is always important. I believe in providing students with opportunities to help enrich and encourage individuals on these paths. I believe it is important to build a positive learning community for students to utilize, including other teachers, administrators, and parents. I believe in the constant collaboration and mixing of these influences so that the individual is able to construct their own ideas. I am committed to providing all students with opportunities in which they can choose the best route for their own success in life.
Believing that education is available to everyone, I feel that the classroom must be a comfortable place where individuals are encouraged and assisted in reaching their full potential. Making opportunities available to each student involves knowing the needs of all students and providing individualized instruction when necessary. In connection with meaningful and authentic assessment, I believe that providing students with worthwhile and important tasks will greatly impact their understanding to the value of education, hopefully instilling in them the desire to become lifelong learners. My approach to education involves students taking an active role in their own learning, ultimately creating responsible and engaged learners. Like my students, I believe that my own educational development is also important. Members of the educational community should always be committed to continuing their own education in order to provide students with the most current and meaningful programs. I believe that my continual commitment to course work is important, as well as observing my classroom practices in order to facilitate change when and where necessary. Constantly reassessing program goals and tasks will hopefully engage students in my classroom, as well as model for students that change in activities is necessary and acceptable to do. Education will always be a work in progress, and taking action when needed in order to improve one’s self shows commitment and desire for achievement. As a member of the community, not only in education, I feel the need to be active in the development and success of the future. Keeping an open mind and having flexibility in my own beliefs allows me to continue to help students in a positive manner, which will never change as I continue my professional life as an educator. |
